Located in northeastern Tanzania near the Kenyan border, it climbs through multiple climate zones: rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit. Its gradual altitude gain and varied terrain give it a stronger acclimatization profile and higher success rate than faster routes, making it popular with trekkers who are physically prepared for a real challenge.
